New Punggol Digital District will create 28,000 jobs, to be open from 2023
Punggol Digital District – Progressively from 2023, there will be a new district in the North-East region of Singapore. Punggol Digital District, the first in Singapore to adopt an integrated masterplan approach that combines amenities for the neighbourhood with a business park and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), will be opened.
This would also mean that residents in the district will have more amenities for dining, leisure and retail. These amenities will include, but not restricted to, a hawker centre with an electronic payment system and a tray return system that is fully automated, new childcare centres, a more integrated public transport system in the area, a heritage trail, as well as a pedestrian street.
Around 28,000 new jobs will be created due to the opening of the new district, and these new jobs will mostly be related to cyber-security, data analytics, artificial intelligence and the internet. The business park, built by industrial-estate developer JTC which will be situated beside SIT, will begin its construction works in 2019. JTC is the master developer for the business park.
Developments such as the extension of the North-East Line and the new SIT campus are set to be up and running from 2023 onwards, which coincides with the addition of the new Punggol Digital District. The plan to include the university in the new district is to allow the neighbourhood, industry experts and undergraduates and graduates to jointly work together on impactful projects that will advance Singapore’s technological field.
This new development will prove to drive the demand of the new Piermont Grand EC in Punggol up since there will be increased human traffic in the now developing estate.
